The Modelling Psychology is a technique, wherein the therapy that is relating to the imitation of the behavior of parent or the teacher is done by the child by just looking at the source that conveys the behavior. The young child imitates the same with the way of repeating the actions that the adult does. The theory of using a tool like the doll to teach the behavior or change the behavior would be considered here.
Yes, you guessed it right, the ‘Bobo Doll Experiment’. Here, the way the adult reacts or does actions towards the doll is copied by the kid who watches the adult. The modelling psychology is the method that is used by the therapist of psychology for the less mentally able kids so that they can learn through the actions showed to them. You get influenced with what you watch and hear most of the time and hence, the ‘modelling psychology’ is the method that will enable the kids with the requirement of the therapy to learn much better.
Different approaches of modeling psychology
The group modelling: Under this kind of approach the therapist would allow the group of people to note down the situations that has happened in their life and also the things that can be done to handle the situation and the same is shown by the therapist first and then the group does the exercise accordingly.
The role playing technique: Under this the therapist would ask the person to behave in particular situation and the same has been imitated by the client who is asked by the therapist to behave and implement the skills learned in the course. For example, these kinds of behaviors can be done in office as well. If at the person becomes nervous to face a situation of embarrassment, he is taught how to handle it by enabling him to behave the way how the therapist enacts the behavior.
The duty of the therapist: The therapist has to allow the participants to use their skills by motivating them to realize what skills they possess. Now, you may wonder as to how the therapist would know about the participant’s skill. It is very simple,
1) The therapist has to ask a lot queries to implement the skills and also allow them to know the major part of the situation that has occurred in the person’s life.
2) The therapist has to enable the participant to speak a lot so that the aspect of the fear is gone and this can be done through the role play.
